Seeding Startup Nation |
Israel's reputation as the "Startup Nation" is well earned. Israeli companies have established themselves at the forefront of several global industries, and today, Israeli ventures are synonymous with cutting-edge technology. The seeds for this success were actually planted in the 1970s, when the Office of the Chief Scientist in the Economy Ministry began offering funding for entrepreneurs and established programs to promote innovation. To a large extent, Israel’s technology sector still owes its competitive edge to these programs. Officials from countries throughout the globe have come to Israel to study the Chief Scientist's funding model and best practices. But with the surge of compelling venture funding options, the dizzying pace of change made it hard to adapt and the standing of the Chief Scientist’s Office eroded.

The Israeli government recognized the need to establish a new authority to oversee the country’s strategic national resource — technological innovation. It would be an independent,non-partisan public entity focusing on the needs of industry, and activities to ensure the ongoing development of innovative industries in Israel.
The strategy we selected for the Innovation Authority emphasized its status as a public entity operating in the interest of the country at large. Governments build infrastructure to transform their resources into national assets. In the same vein, we framed the new authority’s role as building “innovation infrastructure.’’ The Innovation Authority provides the structural foundations that form a framework to bolster the entire industry. The authority develops and cultivates the industry of innovation — but with all the resources, capabilities, and power of the state at its disposal. The brand identity rested on the values of entrepreneurship, cooperation, and a culture of innovation. It's a dynamic and flexible organization that adapts itself to changing market needs, encourages creativity and innovation, and enables ideas to become reality. To implement the strategy, we developed a design language that reflects the pace and energy of innovation within the authority. It’s an organization that is constantly seeking ways to innovate, improve, and optimize its performance, manage risks, and help everyone realize their potential.

The Results |
The branding process gave the authority an organizational identity and serves as a compass for cooperation with its external partners, making work with third-party suppliers more efficient.
